Q: What's the status of VHCC's property?
A: VHCC owns a 35-acre parcel of land adjacent to the Tesoro Del Valle neighborhood at the north edge of Valencia, not far from the intersection of McBean Parkway and Copperhill Drive.  The location is ideal for a church and is only about 3 miles from our current meeting place at Valencia High School.  We are holding the property for future development of a permanent church home for VHCC.

Q: Is money being raised to pay for development of the land?

A: Through a capital campaign in the past, we have raised enough funds to make the down payment on the land, to pay for development expenses to date, and to make some of the regular payments on the loan for the property.  Many people are continuing to fulfill the commitments they have made to the building fund and we appreciate that deeply.  When our development plans become more certain, we will begin a new capital campaign to raise the funds for grading the land and construction of the building.

Q: What has been done with the land so far?  What's next?
A: Since purchasing the land in December 2007 we have developed a plan for grading the land to accommodate the initial phase of the church development, and we have been granted a conditional use permit from the County of Los Angeles to develop the property for a church.  The next steps are to obtain a grading permit and grade the land to provide the 9-acre pad for construction of the church.  Once the land is graded, the value of the property should increase significantly, providing us with the equity needed to finance the construction of the building.
Q: What about moving out of the gym and into an industrial building until we build on the property?
A: The William S. Hart High School District allows us to use the Valencia High School facilities for a reasonable rent which includes eight classrooms, the library, gymnasium, utilities and janitorial services.  On top of that, we pay rent for our office space and other meeting spaces throughout the week.  To set up church in an industrial building would require around 15,000 - 20,000 sq. ft., and at current rental rates in our area, the total rent would increase around 50% over what we are paying today.  Increased cost aside, properties suitable to be converted for use as a church, with sufficient parking and proper zoning, are very hard to find.

Q: What can we as members of VHCC do to help?
A: The prospect of developing our property and constructing a permanent church home looks very daunting today.  But we know that with God all things are possible.  With that in mind, every member of VHCC can contribute to our success.  Here are a few ways you can participate:
  • Keep your focus on Jesus. God wants all of us to know Him, love Him, and serve Him. We are called as believers to worship our Lord and Savior and to make him known to the world.  We can do that from a gymnasium as well as we can from a building on a hill.  Our goal must still be to bring others into the family of God and to grow in our own faith daily.
  • Pray.  Pray for our success.  Pray that our church would bless the Santa Clarita Valley.  Pray for knowledge, wisdom and insight throughout the process.
  • Ask questions. The Staff and Administrative Team don't have all the answers, but more important, we don't have all the questions either. Your question may cause us to address an issue we might have otherwise overlooked.
  • Share your knowledge with us. We know of several VHCC members with expertise in real estate, finance, and construction. You may have knowledge that would be very helpful to the success of this project. Please let us know if you would like to participate.
  • Give faithfully. If you have made a commitment to the building fund - follow through. If you are not currently giving to the ministry of our church, prayerfully consider what God would prompt you to give of your financial resources.
Q: I have more questions. Who do I ask?
A: The Administrative Team (James Kang, Clement Kim, Phil Fish, J.P. Hadjiandreou, and Mark Zittel) are overseeing the land acquisition and construction process. If you have questions, feel free to ask one of the team on a Sunday morning. Or simply call the church office at (661)775-1885.
